Baby Owen Can Walk!

The video pretty much speaks for itself. These are some of Owen's first steps and we managed to capture them on video.

In my continuing love affair with with wooden spoons, I have been playing with this new scooper... I love to scoop up all of my toys, especially the balls. It's challenging, but that's the fun of it!
We finished up our week with Aunt Tami and Uncle Eddie. It was nice to see them, though I didn't get to play with them as much as I would have liked owing to his illness, but I think they at least got to see some of Sonoma County's beautiful sites. They had to sleep near my play area, so I got to show them my toys up close.
Alas, Mom caught the bug too, so we remain laying low. Although mom stayed home, Dad and I did get to go have Pizza for Matt's birthday (Caden's dad) at Mary's in Sebastopol. We had a great time, though Dad forgot the camera. Caden learned to clap that evening and was super enthused to be celebrating for his pop. Dad and I also went to Berkeley on Saturday (while Mom remained on quarantine) to say hi to Grandma Terri and Grandpa Tom who went in to do some furniture shopping. We had a nice lunch, enjoyed walking around the town and got a pretty plant for Mommy.
Sunday, Mom had to get out of the house and was feeling much better, so we ran errands then met Matt and Caden in the park. It was a nice afternoon to play, and I did lots of "walking" or walking while supporting myself on all of the play equipment. We had a nice time, and I think Caden really enjoyed the swings.

A visit from Aunt Tami and Uncle Eddie

It's been pretty cold this week, so I've spent a lot of time playing with all of my new toys... and am having a lot of fun! I'm getting good at "fixing" things with my hammer and driving all around in my truck. I also kept asking to put the froggy bib on a few days ago... it's the only bib I like.

Oh, I forgot to mention that I went to see Dr. Cunningham last week and he proclaimed me to be a lollypop... as I am apparantly relatively slender (just over 20 lbs) am pretty average in height (30 inches) and have a huge head (19 inches)... and very cute to boot (no measure). I got a couple more shots (will they never stop poking me?) and declared to be in perfect condition.

Saturday, Aunt Tami and Uncle Eddie came into town to visit us. It is really nice to see them, and to play with them. We met them for Dim Sum in SF... then went for a good walk into North Beach. I got to hit two parks, St. Mary's and another one in NB. They had tons of fun equipment for me to play on. Mom and Aunt Tami enjoyed picking up a few things around China Town (including this awesome tiger hat that I actually think is fun to wear!) and Dad got to (finally) visit a Scotch shop he'd been eyeing.

On the way home, we stopped at the vista point for a beautiful view of the Golden Gate bridge.
Sunday, we started the day with a big breakfast at Howard's, but unfortunately Uncle Eddie started to feel sick. He's been laid up for the day, and we hope he feels better soon (it's so lousy to be sick on vacation). Mom was at work, so Dad and Aunt Tami took me to Doran Beach where I could play in the sand, and they could bury my feet.

I liked to feel the sand in my toes.

Owen's weekend with Daddy

Amy had to be in field all this weekend catching green crabs for work, so Owen spent the weekend at home with me. We had a pretty laid back weekend with the exception of the flat tire on the way to get groceries in Sebastopol on Saturday and the trip to Santa Rosa to get new tires from Costco on Sunday.

Other than that Owen has been working on his cupboard emptying skills. Here's a time-lapse (one photo every 30 seconds) video of Owen and the pan cupboard.

He must have emptied this thing a half dozen times over the weekend. On Sunday I got wise and added a child proof door latch. Now he can only do this when I open the door for him.

Yep... One year old! This has been such a fun year... full of firsts (first rolling over, first shot at all of the holidays, first crawling, first food, first smile, first laugh ....), family, friends and fun! I've traveled to visit about everyone in the family this year... New York, Michigan, and Fresno. Most impressively I've changed from a tiny bundle into a crawling, babbling, laughing machine!

To help me conclude my first year, we had cupcakes at daycare! It was super nice to be able to celebrate with my friends at small wonders. I tried to share my cupcake with Abell after I licked off the frosting, but he didn't seem too interested. It was fun, I got to sit with the big kids and we all had a nice snack. (the camera phone pics can't capture the extreme cuteness of the moment, but you get the idea... kids, cupcakes fun)

To celebrate this momentous occasion, we had a Pizza Party at the Union here in Occidental.
They put us in the spacious bocce ball room and we had lots of people there to help me celebrate! I also got to talk to Great-Grandpa Em on the phone and Grandma and Grandpa Steves on the webcam! Let's see if I can list all of the super great people who helped me party on my first birthday: Mom, Dad, Grandma Terri, Grandpa Tom, G'Auntie Geralyne, G'Uncle Mark, G'Uncle Dudley, Cousins Erin, Adrianne, Jason, Ann, and cutie Kaylee, Christy, Sean, Kirsten, Mark, Randall, David, tiny James, Keith, Suzanne, Cascade, Matt, young Caden, Jim, Jess, Naoaki! A full house! We had pizza and a carrot cake that Mom made for me.
Man I love that frosting. While everyone sang to me, I couldn't help but sneak a few finger fulls from the edge of the cake, though I didn't dig in whole hog until I got a cupcake of my own. YUM!
I think folks had a good time... all of the kiddos were super great, once we were settled in, no one wimpered too much until it was time to go home. After the Party, we opened some presents with Auntie Geralyne, Uncle Mark Adrianne and Erin and shortly after that ... I crashed! I took a mini nap, then just hung out at home for the reset of the evening listening to stories and playing with all of my fun new toys! I did have to take a serious bath though to get all of the frosting out of my hair. Kaylee lent me her old tub and I loved it!

Sunday, the Grandfolk, folks and myself went to get my 1 year old picture taken, then we just ran around town running errands while I mostly slept. I'm in the process of wearing Daddy and Mommy out playing with all of my fun new toys. They are even better than the pots and pans that I've been playing with, though I still love those too. OH... I'm almost standing, I have had a few moments where I've stood all by myself, I know I've said it before but I am really... sooooo close.

Well, I'm excited about year 2... I am expecting great things!

Happy New Year!

2007... Here I come!

Well, I've had an awesome year, and I hope you have as well! My folks think it went by way too fast. Some of my New Year's resolutions include... (1) get this walking thing down (2) work on my sippy cup skills (3) expand my vocabulary.
The past week or two some of my "problem solving" skills (as called by Marcy the public health nurse who visited us recently) have blossomed. Just today, I found the pots and pans in the kitchen and unloaded most of them by myself. I also have started pretending a lot... I pretend I am Scooter, by trying to sleep in his bed, rolling on my back and chewing his toys (Yuck!), I cook, I pretend I'm on the phone a lot, and I like to pretend that I am eating... even when I'm really eating if that makes sense (I take a real bite, then a pretend bite). I love to share (which was considered v. advanced for my age!). Although I really excel at dumping things out... I also enjoy putting things back or into containers.
Friday, we enjoyed a great dinner with Pamela who was visiting from NC, Suzanne and Keith... we ate Huraches, I love 'em! Plus I had a great time playing with everyone. Since it's been a quieter week, I look foreward to all of the visitors!
Yesterday, I figured out how to climb onto the futon and how to lower myself off of the futon feet first... previously everything had been heads first, which leads to some problems, this feet first business could work.
Since Daddy had this week off, I got to hang out more with him while Mom worked some. We went on a walk and played a lot around the house. This weekend we all went on a nice walk at Spring Lake and I also got to play in the playground some. I love the slide, and the concrete cows and saddle that were there.
Although we had a quiet New Year's Eve... we did enjoy a New Year Day brunch with David, Randall and James. Everyone ate lots... I loved Randall's pumpkin bread. What a sweet way to begin the new year.
