layin' low

Pshew, its been a tricky few weeks, getting, sharing and dodging the many bugs that are circulating around here so we took this weekend to relax a bit, try our best to be well. This, of course, doesn't mean we don't have fun.
Friday the weather lightened a bit, so we spent much of our time riding up and down the block in my fancy car. Grace really got the hang of it! Otherwise, just hanging out, reading, playing with Grace (and her goofy grin).
Grace's eating has improved... she mostly prefers to feed herself and actually ate lunch for the first time in her new class at daycare, and happily will eat granola, blueberries and yogurt, any thing that is primarily meat and muffins, but that's still about it.
Not too diverse, but not bad.

Dad had to take a trip back east this week, so Grandma Terri came out for an extended play-date!
We missed him a ton, but had a great time visiting with Grandma and hanging out with mom. We had a great time with her and are so grateful that she was able to come up and help Mom out. Since Mom was at work most of the week, we have only few pictures of our adventures with Grandma, but we did get in a lot of playing, books, some grocery shopping, cooking (rice crispy treats!!). I do love playing with Grandma's toiletries... her curlers, lotion and powder brushes particularly, no morning has been complete without proper primping! Friday, we did get out to CHAP again, it has been too long in my opinion... I LOVE it there and always dig in with more gusto than Owen who is much more planned and careful with his art. I just discovered glitter... glitter is awesome!!!

After CHAP we headed out to Chez Machin for some really great Crepes. Mom was thrilled, as was Owen who ate one himself plus a few others for dessert.
Seemed like we just couldn't feed that guy enough this week (unlike myself, I'm still a really particular eater).
Not only did we get out to do some art, but Grandma and Owen got a lot of art in at home too... getting ready for Chinese New Year!
After Dad got home we busted out Owen's new (2-wheeler!!) bike.
Mom and Dad are in for a lot of back-breaking rides up and down the street. He has the speed down, but is nervous about the balance still, so everyone needs to get into shape to get him speeding out on his own.
I also thought it was pretty awesome and was eager to hop on a bike as soon as I saw the fun Owen was having.
After a bit they got out Owen's old/smaller bike, still a touch too big... but soon! Thank you Grandma Terri! We had such fun with you are really really appreciate you helping out. Sorry to have shared our various bugs with you, hope you are well! xoxoxoxoxoxo (<-how owen "spells" Love)

noodlie goodness

We have had a busy week. To kind of bookend it I've had some sort of stomach bug... blech
(though try to combat any blahs with a riot of bright patterns). To spite some icky moments, I have been of good cheer, and enjoyed an extra day at home Thursday. There has been some great art time. Grace is getting more and more into coloring too, so we have a great time together. Friday we got to hang out with Esme, Joaquin and Val for dinner and a movie. It was great to get to play with them, it has been since before Christmas so we had a really good time... they also got me a great earth ball for my birthday (it never ends does it?!!) that Grace and I have really been enjoying. Along with some awesome goggles from G'Aunt Gigi (that Grace also likes a lot) and a cool pop-up book about dinosaurs that has been completely occupying me (came without any sender information though... any readers responsible? We love it!). Saturday we had a bit of a relapse, so I was relatively quiet. We did have a good morning though and ran some errands and finally made some won-tons this year (with well washed hands!)! I had a more limited attention span this year, but did get a dozen in or so. It will be pretty awesome to have a dumpling stash... I love them! Today was Henry's first birthday! Grace and mom were able to go, but the folks thought it would be better for Dad and I to stay away from the little kids and Alice. We had a good day though, got some chores done outside, picked things up inside (and made a few messes along the way). Grace had a great time playing with the little'uns though, and particularly got along well with Alice. Happy birthday Henry!

Owen is FIVE!!!!

We have had a lovely week spending time with friends and celebrating Owen's fifth birthday!
This is what 4 looks like. THIS IS 5! Happy birthday to a wonderful, silly, sweet, energetic and loving big brother! For his birthday, we had blueberry muffins for breakfast and had a special treat at school, some fun snacks, and a big ol' canvas that everyone in Owen's class got to paint. We'll get a picture as soon as we remember to bring a camera into school... can you believe the folks forgot on his birthday!!? That night for dinner we had a special request mushroom and kale omelet followed by lava cake for dessert... mmmm nothing says chocolate mustache like lava cake! Owen got a bike for his birthday and has vowed to learn to ride without his training wheels, though it may take a bit of work. He also got to open all sorts of fun presents ... he can't wait to get back to the ocean and put his new snorkel gear from Uncle Ry to use... though the pool or tub may have to suffice for now.
We have spent the week getting into 2010, playing with so many of our new toys,
cleaning out ones we have outgrown to donate to goodwill and to school,
... that and a good walk/bike ride
is a really a nice way to start out the new year.
This weekend we had a birthday party at home for Owen... a pretty great party.
We had a light brunch, cupcakes, and fun play time with friends!
Eli, Theo, Sophia, Aubrey, Alice, Henry,
Benjamin all played for over 3 hours
(with everyone getting along really well the whole time... really!).
It was awesome, we even had a hula-hoop workshop in the garage.
Today was pretty relaxed, after church we headed downtown to see the Chinese Garden, which was lovely as always, we love walking the beautiful paths and looking for fish in their ponds.
We followed up the beautiful walk with lunch at Chen's Good Taste,
which serves the best duck in town ... not to mention an awesome char-siu. Owen's favorite was the won-ton, we'll have to make some more soon, I've never tried... this may be my year. Owen at 5 is 43 inches tall. His favorite things are art, dinosaurs, being helpful. He has a silly streak that comes out with funny faces, unexplained laughter and jokes that rhyme or end in "your eyeball".
He still is a really cuddly and loving (and loves giving me hugs from behind... sneak attack style, which I really do not like, though regular hugs are good). He has a lot of confidence, is good on his letters and getting better counting (though skips 13 & 15 regularly??), likes words that have "oo" and letters in his name, though he recognizes my names as well too.
He aspires to be a paleontologist or an artist, depending upon the time of day...
though he has figured out how to get home from school faster... build a super fast plane... we will need red buttons, black buttons blue buttons, seats, wings, and wheels so we won't crash when we land...
Happy Birthday big brother!
