Spring (?) break!

We finished up spring term with a snow day at school!!!  It was really just a late start due to the snow, but it was pretty exciting none the less.

It was pretty exciting too, 'cause I got to join Mom in her crab hunt... this time just to the local seafood market.  We got a few crabs, a few worksheets together and brought a crab unit into my classroom!

It was so awesome!  Mom had a great time in the class, and my friends and I had a blast looking at the crabs (and we loved eating them up for dinner too!).  It was a treat for everyone :).

Really though, the fun was just beginning.... my very first spring break!  We headed off on our adventure that saturday... which meant a Looong day in the car, but we did really well and practiced learning our disney characters (goofy on one hand, Mickey on the other).

We went to Grandma and Grandpa's house!  WOO HOO!  No wait, there was even more... driving that is.  The very next morning we woke up and got back into the car and headed to the happiest place on earth!  Seriously it was awesome!

Sunday was Grandpa Tom's birthday so we checked into the hotel, watched a little mickey-mouse cartoons, grabbed dinner at an awesome, exciting restaurant

with all sorts of moving snakes, monkeys, butterflies...

the whole restaurant was overgrown with vines and trees!  We finished up Grandpa's birthday dinner with Uncle Ryan's arrival and a massive volcano birthday dessert!

Totally awesome.  Our big spring adventure was just beginning.... stay tuned for part II!

Leprechaun day!

Well, Owen had been telling me all about leprechauns this week.  They like gold and rainbows, wear a lot of green, drink milk like a cat and cause all sorts of mischief.  They also can be caught with just a rubberband put in their path will cause them to just sproing!
I think (knock wood) that we are all healthy again... more or less after lots of time laying low.   Owen had a pretty awesome week, he was the STAR STUDENT OF THE WEEK!
An honor bestowed upon a student who has been making great choices, and guess who got it!  He has, indeed this whole quarter had mostly just wonderful reports... loads of smiley faces just like his new years resolution, so he definitely deserved this award.  He got to bring in pictures of himself and the family and list all of his favorites... favorite food?  Pizza! Favorite color... Orange!  Owen also got to bring in the share bag, which is like an inidividual's show-and-tell, so he brought in his paper airplane book and some of his favorite paper airplanes.  The paper airplane guy we saw actually won the world record this week!    Anyhow, to celebrate some of these great accomplishments we headed out to Hillsdale to check out another bakery... Baker and Spice.

Pretty good,
ranks well with our other favorites, plus its in a cool strip mall with lots of places to peek into.

To kick off St. Patrick's Day (or Leprechaun day as it seems to be more commonly called among the kindergarten set), Daddy put together some great green grandpa's pancakes!

Mommy and I painted our nails glittery green for the occasion.  I am almost as pleased as I was with my pink toes.

We put on our leprechaun hats and headed over to school to check out their rummage sale and show some school spirit.

We had a pretty quiet day of errands and drawing, but took a nice walk in the afternoon to get some gardening supplies and outside for a bit.  I walked Scooter almost the whole way!
and we got to enjoy the bits of spring coloring the neighborhood.

I got to ride our new wheel barrow home!
We finished off our leprechaun day with boiled dinner and some really tasty soda bread.  Thanks Daddy!  Today, well, it snowed again, if you can believe it while the whole rest of the country seems to be having some sort of crazy early spring... here we have spring, mixed with hail and snow.  Anyhow, in lieu of going outside, we went over to Joaquin and Esme's house to play!  It was great fun to see our friends and have some quality play time and snacks (finished off the soda bread).

I finally wore the dress Grandma and Grandpa got me ages ago from egypt... its perhaps a bit snug, but I thought it was "Fancy fancy fancy!"
I helped Daddy and Owen with Green Pizza dinner tonight, AND ate three pieces!  a record!
Happy St Pats Everyone!

Under the weather

Well, we've been pretty lucky this year as far as getting sick goes... that is until now, we're battling a bug that has taken Me and Daddy out of commission.

I'm back, and G is hanging in there but has a cough that sounds a bit too familiar.  SO... we've been lain' low under these stormy skies no wait, sunshine, no wait, pouring rain.... the weather has been fickle, but it's nice to have the sunbreaks we have had.

Otherwise, a fair bit of baking around the house, some granola, muffins, soup, etc.

I have become impressively good at paper airplanes and boats.  Since Mom and I are the last two standing strong, we've escaped the house a few times.

Once for a nice date to Grand Central and to walk in the rain down to an artshop.

I picked out a fancy new "sketching pencil" a cool eraser and a nice sketch book.  Kept me busy for the past few days, I am very good at monsters and spiders and even possums!  Mrs C. taught me how to shade with the side of my pencil and I love it!

Today Mom and I headed to Norse hall for an awesome Pancake breakfast, super yummy, and this afternoon it has been boats and more drawing.

Donno if we mentioned, but in the end we lost two of our youngest chickens to the raccoon and one remains with a big injury on her head, the three old guys weathered the attacks okay.  Once we finally got everything secured enough, the raccoon took out his frustration on Mom's Kale plants that were also doing really well.  Dagnumb raccoon.  I have to go, we're going to plant some potatoes before the rain starts up again!

 Wishing everyone health and sunshine!

Today was good, today was fun, tomorrow is another one!

Oh, there is a touch of spring here...

crocuses and daffodils are popping up (except under our tree that runs several weeks behind everyone else).  Its pretty and today was actually sunny and warm(ish!).
Friday Liam came and played with me, we had a great time,

and in spite of both of us feeling the 2-year old spunk, we settled in quite quickly to really nice playing.

We had a great time with an animal matching game, books and mixing colors on the window.

Owen got to celebrate Dr. Seuss's birthday as well.

He put together some Seuss hair for the whole day, but when Mom pulled out the camera he got shy and wet it down... but he still wanted to take a picture to celebrate one of our favorite authors!

That evening we grabbed burritos with Benjamin and his mom and dad, it was great and fun to hang out with them, it had been a while.  The next morning Owen had a bit of a cough, but it wasn't slowing him down (yet) so we headed out to Bob's to get breakfast with Joaquin, Esme and Val.

It was fun to spend more time with our friends!

Owen and Joaquin had a few great games of dots.

And I managed to put away a whole order of bacon.

Alas, by the time we got home, Owen was feeling a little under the weather and spent the rest of the afternoon cuddled up on the couch with Mom

while Dad and I brewed beer in the garage and caught up with a bunch of neighbors enjoying the respite from the rain. Today... sunshine!  Seriously!  We took advantage and went for a walk for the Division art-walk, though without a nap for me, it was a little tricky getting into many studios, but it was a fun way to enjoy the afternoon.  Of course, I finally fell asleep and snoozed through the time at the park.

Owen had a nice time showing off though.

His monkey bar skills are outstanding as are his climbing skills.

We enjoyed the rest of the afternoon and the sunshine in the back-yard,

 mud pies are back baby!
Dad grilled up some awesome blue-cheese burgers.  YUMMY!
