a bunch of scientists, a trip, and a pergola

We started the week with having a bunch of Mom and Dad's friends from out of town stop by for pizza.  There was a big scientific meeting being held here in Portland and that brought old friends in from California, Massachusetts, and Virginia.
It was so nice to see them all and wonderful to catch-up a bit.
To keep the ball rolling, we made some big plans.  To start off (easy) we had a nice dinner at laughing planet all together (where Owen shared his friendship pins with me)
before Mom and I headed off to...
California!  Mom had her 20th HS reunion to attend, and friends to play with!  I was lucky enough to tag along.  We got to do all sorts of my favorite things... like visit with Great-Grandma Mary!
we checked out the beautiful Fresno Farmer's Market... it is not as large as ours, but it is really gorgeous!
Grandma and Grandpa have figured out my favorite meals... hamburgers (Mom loved her Fresno Fig Burger with blue cheese, figs and arugula)

A great treat in the summer is a sweet dip in the spa with Grandpa!  Grandma is really good at splashing and I just got better and better at dunking my head and "swimming" between Grandma and Grandpa!

Mom got to enjoy her reunion,

which was reportedly lots of fun and filled with so many friends to see,

 laugh with,

 hug and catch-up with!

I wasn't exactly left out though, and had a fun evening of swimming, hotdogs and olympics with Grandma and Grandpa.
I got in at least one more fun visit with my dear friends

We went to see Auntie Donna, Uncle John,

 Mr. and Mrs. Mayeda

and their sweet doggies.

And we got to check out Grandma and Grandpa's new home... doesn't seem quite livable yet, but it is getting there quickly

All in all a wonderful trip!  It was such a treat to be able to spend some quality time with everyone in California.  Thank you especially Grandma and Grandpa for taking such good care of us and for driving us too and fro from Sac.
Not to be left out though.... Owen and Daddy also had a really busy weekend.  First off, they got to visit with David (who was also out for the meeting).  Mom and I were totally jealous!  I heard they had a great evening together

Most of Saturday was dedicated to quite the impressive project.

Dad invited his (wonderful, helpful, generous, kind) friends Chris and Christine over to help him make a pergola over the back yard deck.  First they replaced a couple of the guard rail posts with much taller ones.
Then Chris and Dad took a step back to figure out what was next.

Dad looked really worried at one point, but I think he might have just been really hot working in the sun.
Pretty impressive isn't it!  They did a great job and it was such a cool surprise to come home to a great pergola!
It looks great doesn't it...
Hopefully we'll get a bit more shade on the deck now which will make dinner outside more comfortable.

Sunday, after working so hard all day on Saturday, Owen and Dad biked down to Woodstock and visited some of their favorite places; lunch of a  hot dog at Otto's, followed by a trip to the library, and finally a treat at the Cloud City ice cream shop.
After our great visit, it was certainly also nice to return home.  I missed "my Owen" so very much and was thrilled to see him again... there were may hugs and hand holding when we got back together!
