It's berry time!

This week, Dad has taken off for a big fishing trip, so Mom has been trying to keep us busy, but has mostly succeeded in wearing herself out!  Saturday, we headed out to Sauvie Island farms for some pretty great berries.
Owen did a particularly amazing job, I think he picked more than Mom, especially since I was working pretty hard to pick from Mom's basket instead of the well loaded bushes.
We spent a good morning until it started to get pretty hot.  We headed out once we were all puddles of sweat and grabbed some sandwiches and tots at Bunk.
Where we worked hard on our winking.    That afternoon we had fun with sunprints!
This is Owen's that he is calling"Owen's Garden"

and he helped me name mine "helping hands"
they were pretty awesome to watch develop, and will make fun dishtowels!
Today was hot again... like 85 and we were pretty pink-cheeked and toasty.  I had a rough morning with Mom, but once we all calmed down a bit, we biked down to the woodstock Farmer's Market for mushrooms and a lemonade.  We headed home and spent much of the rest of the afternoon hanging out in the yard.  Mom just introduced me to Mister Rodgers and I love him.  We cleaned up around the house, ran out for a few groceries and an ice-cream cone.
The rest of the afternoon was spent noshing on watermelon in the yard.
scooter seems to really be enjoying the sunshine and spends a ton of time outside.

We miss daddy and can't wait to see him tomorrow!!!

Getting out...

Even though it's summer, we are getting our fair share of summer sprinkles, but it is not keeping us inside, Grace and I are pretty immune.  On Friday, we managed to pick a big load of berries from around the neighborhood, and hung out in our bower under a bunch of shrubs.

SO, the folks are frantically trying to get in some home improvements (Painting, new floors, etc...)
before Summer School starts next week.
For me and Grace, home improvements means that we get to do all sorts of awesome things outside of the house.  On Saturday, while Dad was pulling out the carpet and hearth, Mom took us to Manzanita Beach...

which was awesome, Mom is thinking of it as our new go-to beach.

So... the weather was perfect, the sand was vast, the sky was blue, crowds were small.

The water was ... not cold and full of amphipods for us to catch.
Though I found the largest ones up in the wrack.
The beach is huge, with a gentle slope that allow for plenty of running in the baby - waves.
Grace I think, enjoyed being in the Ocean for the first time ever!  Really loved it.
She actually came prepared and was the only one with her proper swimsuit.
but I did just fine in my shorts.
After several hours digging, building, catching, splashing, jumping we finally took a break for lunch!
The town is just right, a couple of nice looking eateries and nice small shops (though we couldn't find fish n chips, which was a major drawback for me and Grace, though the sandwiches at the bakery were pretty good).

We even took turns drawing in the sunshine after lunch, while Mom explored the cute local shops and  galleries.

We did make one more stop at the upper beach while we ate our yoghurt and Mom enjoyed her coffee.
There were some great rocks for pretending
We may need some giant rocks in our yard, they are fantastic as boats,
Stages, dance platforms, mountains, we could have stayed there all day.
TODAY, while Mom painted the kitchen, Dad took us to OMSI to meet up with my buddy Aiden
 A. is my best friend from school, and since I've been off for a week, I have missed him and worried how we were going to work out play-dates until he called me yesterday, we had a nice long chat and worked things out for the adults!
All in all a pretty great weekend.  The folks made a lot of progress on the house and we had a great time.  Summer is looking good.  I am turning into a maniac for reading, seriously 1.5 hrs a day reading on my own.  We have to credit the library for having their summer reads program, it is very motivating, we get credit for every 30 min, and in a week I am up to 17 squares! I am working my way through Comet in Moominland, and the Superhero Storybook Collection.  Grace likes to read the superheroes with me, then goes off to play "Cinderella batman girl!"  who is really good at jumping up and down the steps in our backyard.

Hello Summer!

First off, Happy Father's day to all of the fantastic Dads and Grandpas out there!
A most special Happy Father's day to our own super wonderful guy who is an amazing Dad, Thanks for being there to push us on the swings, take wonderful care of us at home, feeds us delicious meals and being all around wonderful... we love you!
We also finished up the school year this week.  Owen graduated from 1st grade and I graduated into Pre-K.  WOW!  Owen has grown so much in height, in his reading and math skills, with his friends, this year, we are really proud of him!
When asked how he wanted to celebrate... he suggested little t for a baguette with butter and jam
and to top it off we both got cookies!  Owen was a little melancholy about finishing first grade in the morning, seems a few of his friends are moving and he is not confident that we can wrangle play-dates with his best pal Aiden over the summer.  We are going to do our best buddy!  However this afternoon, he was doing great, he re-learned how to finger-knit and is completely absorbed.
In fact, as our dear neighbor Pam has put her house on the market, we have started trying to spend as much time as possible with her before her new adventure begins, which means Owen wakes up at 6:30 am and says... can I go over to Pam's now?  He has to be held back until a reasonable hour!

We got to spend a great morning in Sellwood celebrating Liam's 3rd birthday!
The rain finally passed and the sun came back out in time for a fantastic party!
 Everyone had a lovely time!
 Happy birthday Liam!
We had a few hours down-time before heading over to Amelia's house for a great slip-n-slide party with a bunch of Owen's friends.  They were super nice and we had a really fantastic afternoon.
with loads of wild playing outside and in!
Today was Father's day, which is woefully short of pictures.  We grabbed one as we set Dad up with his Bagels with lox and all the fixings for breakfast.  We had a quiet morning then Dad and I went swimming together for the first time (I know I know... they sure have taken their sweet time getting me into the water) and we did great, I even put my face in a few times and went down the giant slide loads.  Mom started tackling painting, it took her most of the afternoon but at least the hallway is all done!  To keep us busy and to spend some QT together we went and saw Epic with Dad, and then after a great steak dinner, Owen got to go fishing for the evening.  They each got one fish!  Go Steves boys!
