visits and drizzle

So.... we had a fun week hanging out with Grandma and Grandpa Steves!  There were lots of basket ball games
Though we realized that with our mad basketball skills... "CAT' is a better game for us than "HORSE", maybe even "IT" or something short.  Doesn't stop us though.  Owen even totally crashed and skinned his knee and between tears and sobs cried "I Can't stop playing basketball!!"
We also learned all sorts of fun new games.  Grandpa worked with Owen on his solitaire, he was getting pretty good by the end of the week.
Grandma showed me how to make peanutbutter finger sandwiches... I LOVED them and relished smelling like peanutbutter afterwards.
We made it out to the zoo for a nice afternoon.  Did you know they have a goat named Grace too?
We, of course saw my favorite ... Lilly the baby elephant and playing with the statues.
We also saw a bunch of beautiful giraffes
which Grandma was pretty excited about (us too!)
We fed a few lorikeets on the way out.
We took a lot of walks with the Grandfolks, including a few stops to look at antiques (or catch up on our readings)
and scavange pretty things along the way (to fill up Grandpa's pockets)
Tried out some awesome bubble recipes.  These were pretty great, but corn syrup made them sticky (we didn't care, Mom had to roll her eyes though)
but pretty awesome bubbles make it worth-it

We did a lot of cooking with Grandma and Grandpa... we made tortillas for tacos, and rolled our own sushi together.  This was Grandma's first roll... looks wonderful!

Thank you for a really lovely visit, you made our summer complete! We miss you already.
But Owen and I have  kept up playing war for hours!
In spite of a beautiful sunny week, when we hit the road on our bikes today for the parkways (where they close a load of streets for bikers only!) it was rainy and just a hint of chill in the air.  We got pretty wet, but had an awesome afternoon.  After riding to Esme and Joaquin's house we headed over to Laurelhurst together and got to enjoy all sorts of fun
 especially the stilts,
tight-rope by Owen and Joaquin (they did great!)
balance pole
 horse back riding
and GIANT hula hooping.  Owen and Joaquin did remarkabley well.  Owen even managed a HUGE hula hoop really well.  Esme and I worked on our spinning plates.
I think we're ready for the circus... right?

We all devowered some HUGE corn cobs before heading back for a nice afternoon of playing at their house.

What a fun afternoon... thanks guys for sharing it with us (and taking great care of us at your place!)

Visit from Grandma and Grandpa Steves!

It is a wonderful summery week for us!  I finished up my fun at Y camp until school starts back up and got to spend some great time with Grandma and Grandpa Steves who are out from NY for a visit.
We have walked them silly so far, including a pretty lovely hike around Reed Canyon.

Yesterday was our 4th annual block party!  We love it... they close down the street, there area all sorts of activities and food to enjoy all afternoon!
The grown-ups get to chill in the shade
while we kids get to ride our bikes, hula hoop, play corn-hole
ride wagons, paint rocks, pretty much incessently
It was a lovely day playing with a ton of neighbors that we see too infrequently.
and a good reminder to get out an play more!

There were only a few bumps and bruises for the day... it was shut down as things were getting quite dark when Owen crashed dramatically on his bike.  It looked pretty bad at first, but was in part the result of a looong day of playing hard, and he was fine this morning... pshew!  We had a great dim-sum brunch followed by an impressive effort to get the car back into the garage.  After a lot of hard work...it worked!  Thank you for the help Grandpa and Grandma!  We really appreciate it!

even if it was a bit tiring.  Luckily we had ice-cream to look forward to and enjoy.

The craziest thing this year....

The weekend started out fairly mild.  Mom and I went out for an early breakfast at Broder, with Scandinavian treats for breakfast.
while Owen and Daddy went fishing in Sauvie Island (caught an odd assortment of Starry Flounder, bullhead catfish, and perch)
Owen has grown up so quickly, we have to get the stache under control.
We spent some of the rest of our days together painting and enjoying the sunshine while it was out.  Scooter still loves hanging around me when we paint.
Our boxes are still getting put to good use.  Owen and I have been perfecting our sales patter and have a thriving business in veggies, ice-cream and cupcakes.  If the tea is on then you can have a cuppa too.
But even having a business in the home is not the craziest thing ever.  We spent Sat afternoon wandering around the Alberta Street Fair when our ears caught the tunes of the Starwars Imperial march so we headed over to see.... Yep, the unipiper of Youtube fame!  Yep, that's Brian (not Dad), in a utility kilt, on a unicycle, playing the bagpipes WITH a DarthVader Mask on.  He's actually the main squeeze of Mom's TA!
 Owen was completely fascinated.
AAAAnd this happened!  What do you think?  Christmas Card?
We finished up with Shave Ice and though that was a pretty great treat, the Unipiper really made our day.
Today was more mellow, but included a much needed play-date with the Val, Esme and Joaquin.
