We all had Monday off so we took advantage of the sunshine and headed out to Manzanita to spend the day at the beach!
 It was gorgeous.
I worked on sprinkling fairy dust in the creek.
While Owen worked on his castle

Dad and I also played at mermaids!

All in all a great way to spend MLK day
We had a pretty busy week, with intermittent pictures really.  Owen worked on a cool nanolego hornet from Kaylee and Clark.
Mom and I joined Liam, Henry and a few other friends for a great trip to the firehouse, where we got to hang out with a few firefighters and see all of the gear, their rooms, fire pole, truck and even got to see them get dressed out!  It was pretty awesome.  We followed it up with a lovely playdate with Henry.  I love our Fridays.  We finished it up with a visit to Owen's school for a Beats and Bites event, with dancing and food!  We even got to see baby Ellie and her bros.
Saturday, I got to go to Ballet again, I am really really loving it.  We took off right afterwards to see Charoltte's Web at the Children's Theater courtesy of Grandma and Grandpa Steves and Aunt Tami and Uncle Eddie.  It was really a wonderful and done so very nicely!
After the play we headed over to Esme and Joaquin's house for a fantastic pizza dinner and play-date!

Today was a bit more quiet, Mom took Owen and I for a walk into town for a visit with the library and an ice-cream.  Dad put together a yummy Udon dinner.
Afterwards, we decided it was time to trim Owen's hair a bit.  And hey, if we were going to be getting new clippers and all, may as well do a proper job of it.
And we zipped it all off and now... the bravest man we know, Daddy, also go his hair cut as well.
 He is really really brave.

Well, Mom didn't take enough pictures to do the week justice, but I had a pretty awesome week.  Mrs. D. had an awards day and I did stellar, Awesome job with the homework, great progress with IXL and problem of the month.  Aidan and I rocked it!  Anyhow, I am pretty excited, and am working really hard on my reading in hopes of chances at blazer's tickets (for the big readers).  And man do I have plans, I am also planning a fundraising scheme to replace the neighborhood backboard ... so if anyone wants to donate I am selling rubberband bracelets (bandaloom creations) and cookies (we'll bake 'em tomorrow!)
Grace and Liam had a great afternoon at the zoo!  The sun has really been out a lot for January, but we are enjoying it.
We hadn't been there in ages, It is still fantastic watching the baby lilly the elephant, but also to see the new lion cubs playing in the sunlight was pretty amazing as well!!

Today we celebrated Henry's 4th Birthday!  It was a perfect party!  Great friends, everyone playing nicely (and relatively calmly... amazingly enough)
We had a great time and loved the playing outside
and of course the amazing cake and cupcakes!
 Happy birthday buddy!

We are officially back to our somewhat regular schedule... School was back for Owen and for Mom this week and life is resuming a familiar cadence.

Well, except now we have an 8-year old.  Yep Owen offically turned 8 this week.  Which roughly means that we have eaten a lot of pizza this week!  We made some at home for his birthday, then again this weekend, he got to go climbing with Joaquin and Dad (no pictures... but fun!) and then have a pizza/ice-cream celebration with his best pal from school Aiden and best pal Joaquin which was pretty great, plus it was just fun to get out with friends.

As an official 8-year old kid, Owen's favorite things include stinky cheese, mushrooms, dragons and tide-pools. He is also a super runner.  He and Mom have been running 1-2 miles almost every day since Thanksgiving.  They hit their marathon before winter break, they just passed 40 miles as the year turned over, and as of tonight are at 53 and 52 miles respectively and are so pleased! Somewhere around New Years he turned from sort of a "hare" runner (sprinting and collapsing on and off) to a nice steady runner when he wants to and a really fast jet pack mom can't keep up sort of runner when he is really enthusiastic. He is an awesome reader and is setting an example for me this weekend.  That may have been the biggest point of contention this evening... the folks had to laugh as they said several times... "no more reading guys", a library trip didn't help as we stocked up on all of our favorites.

I also started ballet class!  If you have talked with me much at all in the last month or so, I am sure you knew this was going to happen.  It was pretty great, everything I imagined (well, no tutus...yet... that was a bummer).  Once I warmed-up to the whole thing, I really loved it and took it quite seriously.

My favorite was dancing around the circle with a bunch of flowers...

Though I was pretty serious for a lot of class, I ended it with a huge grin as I curtseyed to my teacher on the way out.  I LOVE IT!

After a fun-filled Saturday, we had a quieter Sunday and had enough time to run to the winter market to pick up some mushrooms and meet some cute goats, check out books from the library and head home to help Dad with dinner.
Look at me... I'm a cake!!!  The heating vent + my spinny dress are an awesome combo.
We made great pink and green raviolli
with the Oyster mushrooms that Owen picked out!

Happy to you!

Happy 2014!  I'd say that I have had a fantastic year really, a decent year for everyone in the ol' family all around.  We rang (or popped) in 2014 with a bash at Val's house.  There was lots of popping,
games, and
dress-up, friends, food and of course FUN!
A great way to say farewell to 2013 and celebrate with dear ones.
To punctuate our winter break, the new year AND my birthday, we headed to the coast to play and to do some glamping!
We started off with a visit to Newport Aquarium!

Lots of cool exhibits and fun stuff for kids to do.

 and Dads.

After having a blast with all of the sea critters and running all around, we headed out to Yaquina head.
It was a little windy there.
but a beautiful sunny day to enjoy being outside.
and check out the light-house and the awesome, and noisy cobble beach below.

The tide was a little high for the awesome tidepools that are supposed to be under the water there, but it was great to enjoy the coast and cobble.  I told Val that next to stinky cheese, my favorite thing in the world were watching critters in the tidepools.

We finally made it to Cape Lookout and checked into our super awesome cabins.  Now this is camping... fridge, bathroom with lovely shower, and heat!
When the folks asked what I wanted to do for my birthday... I said go camping at the beach.  Luckily they had this planned months ago!
I got my mint brownie cake, my best buds and a sweet little celebration on a cabin on the beach... pretty perfect-o!
We spent the evening eating sweets, playing games and relaxing a bit.

The morning was pretty lovely with perfect cinnamon rolls and breakfast in the frosty dawn.
The folks gave me a real tracker's knife for my birthday and I got to practice my whittling while Dad started another spoon!
Grace and Esme capitalized on the heated cabin to eat breakfast properly
and play princesses in the bunks (Esme reported that Grace is "all about Princesses"... it's kinda true right now)
Once we realized that the sunshine was warming the beach we spent much of the morning running about in the sand.

 then exploring the forest
and playing trolls guarding the bridges (and demanding answers to riddles to anyone who was trying to "keep an eye" on us)

All in all a really lovely get-away and a really amazing way to "camp".  We love Cape Lookout for it's beauty, proximity to the beach and cool ranger station that usually has all sorts of activities, but NOW we also love it for it's winter camping options.
Once we checked out, we headed just down the road to Cape Meares.  It was a lot more calm though still no whales.
maybe just a beast rising from the deep though.
Thanks for a fun weekend guys!  We had a quieter day today, got down to playing with our Christmas toys, and getting ready for  yummy chili crab dinner with Dad's fishing buddy and his wife (Jeff and Amanda).  I channeled Uncle Ryan and made a lovely mountain of Crab that I then devoured.  I am so excited for my birthday tomorrow, and heading back to school!  Happy new year, I'm looking forward to my 8th year!  Be well friends and family, have a fantastic 2014!
