5, 12

Okay, it's official, I turned 5 for reals this week!  We had another small celebration at home.  Dad surprised me with my favorite cereal!  While I was quite gracious, I was even more pleased to find that it really held an Elsa from Frozen dress... oooh my goodness I was pleased.
almost as excited as Owen was!

I got to spend a fun morning opening all sorts of amazing presents
from my sweet and awesome family and friends.  I really am loving this doll, Isabelle, though Mom really wishes I could figure out how to dress her myself.
It was a pretty great day all in all.
Mom got to spend it with me, since her classes don't actually start until this coming week.  We had a great day playing with everything and going out for an icecream.
and being surprised by some beautiful flowers when we got home (and my new most favorite skirt!)  Thank you Aunties!
In the evening we opened the presents from Great-Grandma and my Uncles in Tulare which was like an awesome treasure!
and they are always so considerate and generous and send both of us presents on my birthday.  Owen was particularly excited by Uncle Andy's post-card collection.
all topped off with... of course, more cake to celebrate!

After a great week Mom and I spent some of Saturday at the Farmer's market while Dad and Owen went bass fishing.  I wanted to look my very best so got my whole outfit together (after Mom practically had to drag me away from the tea-party my dolls and I were having)

Although we really didn't have a huge veggie need, we did enjoy all of the music that was being played.  I particularly liked PSU's a capella group the Timbres.

The guys had a great fishing day and caught 12 bass (not eatin' fish this weekend alas), and returned in time for my Ballet class' picture day.  Actually there are only 3 of us in the class, but all of the pre ballet students took pictures together.
Saturday afternoon was dedicated not only to the market, fishing, pictures but also it was time to refresh our Won ton stash, so we all had a great time together folding won-tons, knowing that our favorite meal waits for us on busy nights!
Owen folded quite a lot, and I even got in on the folding game for a while, but would have to take periodic musical breaks.
when we were done, we were so thirsty, Owen and I put together our construction straws, and I was pleased to have to explain to my dear brother that sometimes shorter... is better.  especially when you are thirsty!
Today we got to keep celebrating!  It is Mom and Dad's 12th wedding anniversary!  Can you believe it... a dozen years together.  We looked at their wedding pictures, in the morning, had a play-date with our pals (who are re-landscaping their yard, which makes for surprisingly relaxing trenches to kick-back in!).

While Mom and Dad went out for a drink together and to grab a few groceries
Dad went home and started dinner, which was a good idea, since it took most of the rest of the afternoon to put together.  Indian food, from our pantry was a start-from-scratch affair.  We got home in time to help make Samosas which were fantastic

The whole meal, mango lassi included was pretty fantastic!  Thank you for all of your hard work daddy!  Happy Anniversary!

Guess who is turning 5?!

School is now in full swing, and I am even getting the hang of getting my homework done again.  Mom, Dad and Grace got to come in for open house this week and see my teacher's awesome rock collection, as well as explore my whole classroom.
It has only been a few weeks but we have done quite a lot and I am loving the third grade!

Grace also got to start Ballet up again and is loving that as well.  It is a small class this term, only the two of them so far, We think they will be Arabian in the nutcracker this winter,  she is pretty excited and gets to practice all the parts.
A while ago, Dad and I inoculated a hay bale with some oyster mushroom spores and sort of forgot about it until Mom was working in the yard and noticed these beauties!
The big news really is that Grace is about to turn 5!  Tomorrow actually, but we celebrated yesterday with a bunch of friends.  I will miss being twice as old as she is.
We celebrated with friends and a Pancake party!
Daddy made an crazy amount of pancakes, Mom made a bunch of syrups (coconut, peach and blueberry) and we ate well, played well... and had a fantastic morning with everyone.
There was, of course, a pinata.  I LOVE pinatas.
It was pretty darned sturdy though and after dribbling out treats for a while we all busted it open.
and finally, enjoyed cake!!!
Thanks everyone for helping us celebrate my little sister!
Well, the parties continued today.  We went over to celebrate Ellie (1), Alex (4) and Linda (40!!)'s joint birthday bonanza!
Ellie did pretty well with her cake, all on her own!
and to top off a fantastic afternoon with friends, there were also lion dancers who came, danced and then gave us some history, stories and let us play too!

I got to do a lot of dragon dancing along the way, it was pretty fun!
Happy birthday dear friends!

so, Alex and Grace chickened out at the last moment and spent (not surprisingly for Grace) the lion dance inside, far away from the loud noises and scary beasts.  Well until they left, and Both of them spent a lot of time enjoying Alex's lion that he got for his birthday!

seems Fair

Even though Owen is back to school, I am still part-timing it until Mom starts up again later... which means lots of messy projects at home.  Mom brought out a little container of water for me to rinse my hands and feet off... she stepped back inside for a towel and I took her quite literally.
We had a Sept 11 service spreading of mulch around Church, and had a great, if not a little itchy evening with everyone...many hands make
Later in the week we went to a boulder gym and climbed with Liam and Vanessa.
My favorite was the slack line, but we all did a bunch of climbing around...
L did awesome and was quite a climber.

Though we all made it up (and down the cool slide that gives an easy way down)
dark and light... we lost another chicken this week... our youngest Elsa.  Raccoons again, they opened up one of the coops.  On the light end of things, we had been thinking about getting a few new chickens so we started with babies this time.
 Meet JoJo
 and sparkles.
 Pancake Saturday... our favorite.
Owen has taken charge of making Salsa for us... at least three times this week and it is fantastic!
We went to two fairs this weekend... The Belmont street fair, which was pretty great, we ran into several friends ... JJ & Samson, and later Ellie, Alex and Andy.  We got to go into the old fire department and introduce Owen to a rotary phone!  Today, Dad went fishing while we headed to the mini Maker fair...
It's a good place to play with the fancy new 3-D pens, meet storm troopers, make rockets,
get serenaded by the Unipiper
Oh and launch those rockets.... a lot.

I think we spent most of the first hour we were there at the rocket station.

We finally moved on to making bugs with LED eyes
Trying out the skate ramp + speakers that reminded us that our clan are not exactly made up of natural boarders.
We are good at sculpting and eating chocolate though
and riding around in a giant kingfisher rig.
We started to get a little overwhelmed after a few hours and almost made it back to the car before getting distracted by robots
and I am feeling there is sort of a star-wars theme going on here.

We finally made our way out after Owen started his first flint fire... he has been working on this all summer and finally was successful ... several times in a row in fact!
Pshew... it was an exhausting and super fun day, we came home and played with the chicks yet and doted on Scooter who scared off three raccoons last night (with Dad's help), but surely saved another chicken with his heroics.  Dad came home just after bedtime with two big chinooks!  Yay Dad!
