Walkin' on sunshine!

So it has been uncommonly warm with beautiful blue skies, mixed up with a few rain storms.  However we have been taking good advantage and walking all over the neighborhood.
And working a bit on the yard as well... I can't say it looks particularly neat right now, but there are some new projects in the works!
Dad and I are working on a bog garden... yep, wet, carnivorous plants.. we have high hopes.
On the colder evenings we have been giving the spirograph kit that Uncle Ryan gave me a good workout.
Dad has made some amazing food, a bit off of his normal weekly repertoire... pallela, tuna loin... Grace has filled in where she misses out on "new" food with some sardines.  Pallela, tapas... sardines make good tapas... She wasn't too far off the mark.
We finished up a weekend around the neighborhood with some good time at the playground.  G is really great at the monkey bars these days.
I am great at using the monkey bars in new and inventive ways.  We also hit Cloud City, for the first time in months!  Oh ice-cream we have missed you circus friends, waffles v. wafers, and spicy chocolate.

Tricks!

It is a long weekend, and we were supposed to have made some exciting plans to execute, but instead we are having a quiet-ish time playing "find that smell" in the garage... we are half way through and no joy yet... though it seems to be not quite as strong.  We have spent some time teaching Scooter some tricks, like how to train us to put broth on his food for every meal.
He is getting better at listening to Owen and Me, but he still doesn't think this trick is as amazing as we do.  He's a good boy, he'll take a treat off of my chest, but will not even think about touching one any closer to my face... whether for his own sake or hers, I"m not sure, but we think it he is wildly talented.
We did get to celebrate Henry's birthday party and had a fun lego themed event!  We got some cool iron-ons, but now I'm waiting for Mom to sew me a lego bag so I can iron it on that.
Plus we got to play legos all afternoon... so perfect!
Some took a break for a musical interlude... not just Happy birthday but a full band!
Happy Birthday Bud!  Thanks for the super fun party and we wish you a wonderful year!
but like I said, a fair bit of hanging out at home... in our newly recovered Kitchen chairs we just got back.
they look sooo much better!  Now we can invite people over for dinner again!  Yay!
we got a few sunbreaks in today so Mom went out to hang with Val for a bit and Dad tried to work on my bike... it has pedal breaks... so who needs front hand brakes anyhow?  It is a big step up sizewise and I'm not very comfortable on it yet, but with a few more dry days and I think I"ll get the hang of it.  We had an unplanned but great dinner with T. and family at laughing planet, which made for a great evening and some fun time playing dinosaur Jenga with friends.

9

It was my birthday week and we got to celebrate several times!  Nine is going to be pretty great, I can already tell!  I'm pretty excited to be getting older... this last year before double digits is pretty exciting.
I got to open all sorts of cool gifts (and got started right away with the biggest spriograph kit ever from uncle Ry!  After school I picked a dinner out at Little Big Burger with a root-beer float!

followed by a very chocolatey cake with whipped cream frosting!
and a few more gifts to open!  Thank you Tulare Gongs for the coolest book ever!  Mom and Dad played "name that sound from Star Wars" all evening long (and thanks for thinking of Grace too!... She was so excited to beef up her frozen collection!).

For my birthday I wanted to go camping again!  So we invited my besties Aiden and Joaquin and a lot of other great friends to join us for a camping trip out to Fort Stevens (where they have some awesome deluxe cabins... heat and bathrooms in the winter is awesome).
We started out at the Shipwreck beach, where A. and I rolled down those dunes repeatedly!
It was a sandy wet blast!

When we checked in we met up with our pals and went on some good adventures in the trails around the cabins.
Dinner was Pizza (really, this hardly counted as camping) with everyone at Fort George brewery... they were great for their yummy food, biiiggg tables and kid friendly entertainment supplies.
Our friends shared my second cake back at teh campsite.

It is impressive how many kids can fit in the much beloved top bunk!
we spent a lot of the evening (and next morning playing all sorts of games in the cabins.
The weather actually was pretty fair... a bit of drizzle but not that cold so we also got to spent a lot of time around the campfire... for smores... for breakfast!

and we were in a cul-de-sac so there was some room to play soccer (and try to get Dad to play too!)
 A. and I stayed up WAAY too late and then woke super early.  Since we had to share, we chose the (smaller) top bunk (because it is totally the coolest), which also meant we didn't sleep super well.  It was all too exciting.  We had a mellower morning (probably 'cause we were a little sleepy) and it was hard to leave.
Promise of a last visit to the beach finally got us moving.
The tide was a little lower so we actually got to explore the wreck a bit more... and pretend we were pirates!
And spend a bit more time running up and down the dunes.

Although it was a noisy and boisterous car ride out to camp... the ride home was chillin' and quiet.  Pshew!  I am so grateful for everyone who was able to come  out and enjoy Fort Stevens with us, it was a super awesome treat and we really enjoyed spending time together!  Thank you also for all of the great birthday wishes!

Hello 2015!

Happy New Year!
Guess who is embracing her legomaniac?  Well, really I've been playing with legos for a long time, but this is my own first set... I put it together myself and have loved playing with it (and the rock-star stage... not pictured but pretty awesome too!).
and, of course still (always) a legomaniac, Owen is also working hard on his robotics and is pretty excited to finish up his remote controlled picture taking robot (cell phone not included).

We said farewell to 2014
with a fun celebration with our friends
and rang (honked) in 2015!  This year is going to be great!  We haven't made our resolutions yet, maybe the first should be to not procrastinate!
We did celebrate our first day of 2015, which was crisp and clear with a chilly hike up on Powell Butte.
You could see all of the mountains and even the city from the top!
It is nice to start a new year with a broad view.
and hot cocoa.

aaand black-eye peas!
They were pretty yummy this year (actually we really like our recipe from our cypriot friends... great black eye peas every time!)
Even though we were on vacation (more or less... Owen had to go in with  Mom and Dad a few days and I had to go to daycare as well), we have had a lot of play time and even a few visits from friends!  Don't let the almost 9yo camera face fool you, we had a lovely lunch with our friends Matt, Cascade, Caden and Finn who were passing through town on their way home from vacation.
It was nice to see them, catch up a little bit, eat pizza and meet this guy!
We followed our lunch date up with an afternoon at the park.  The sun was out and weather all in all was lovely so we jumped on the opportunity to spend the day outside.

We spent the afternoon climbing all over the structures, but mostly manning the huge branch fort.
And to top off a fantastic day, we hung out with Esme, Joaquin and Val for a dinner/play-date.

For much of the rest of the new year, we cleaned up our Christmas decorations, played a lot with all of our new toys, games and activities!

and even got a little bit of work done... we reinforced the nursery chicken coop outside and put the chicks (now pullets) outside.  I don't think they are terribly pleased about the arangements... the garage is undoubtedly a bit more cosy, but they will get used to it!

Owen actually did most of the repair job.  Nice work bro!  Happy New Year everyone.  Wishing you a wonderful, healthy, happy, productive 2015!
