Fish, Michigan Cousins and Fun!

We celebrated the Memorial Day holiday with another family fishing trip to Lost lake, and it was as great as it was before!
Well, almost, Mom and Grace caught the most fish,

I came in second and poor Dad, the great fishing ringleader went home empty handed,
though he did do a fantastic job smoking our trout right up.
and helping Grace bring her fish in... she was pretty excited

The sun has come out in full force this week, well close at least it cools off nicely in the evening.

where Grace can use the deck to perfect her hula hooping moves.

Most exciting of all was a visit from our sweet cousins!  We are thrilled to have met Max for the first time this weekend. Katie, Adam and Max were so wonderful to include a visit with on while on their wonderful vacation!
M is a real cutie, and super fun to play with.  I've gotten "old" and try to play it cool but even my cool front melted by the end of the weekend. They showed up by lunch to enjoy at laughing planet, and then a public transit tour of Portland.  We rode the tram to enjoy the views, which though not crystal clear, were clear enough to see Mt. Hood and Mt St. Helens.
M loves trains, so we thought the tram would be a good start,
and spent the rest of the afternoon trucking through downtown on the Trolly.
Our only regret was that we didn't figure out how to work the MAX into our tour with Max.
and in spite of the warm weather, the Jameson fountain wasn't on yet.
but watching Max get excited for the trolly was totally wonderful!
 He's a cute happy kiddo!
and not to bad at Kubb too.
G loves Max and keeps telling Mom how great she thinks he is!

and after the a morning guitar lesson, we introduced the crew to dim sum!  M is a fan of the char siu baos (my least favorite if you can figure that out).
After we bid them fair journey, we had some down-time at home and then headed out to see Ramona at the Children's theater.  It was fantastic!  Pretty much hit the sibling story on the head.
We walked around downtown a bit and even talked the folks into a pretty yummy ice-cream stop.

in all, I think we totally wore Grace out as she crashed pretty hard on the way home.
but at least Dad and I got to finish our Risk game!

We feel so lucky to be able to spend this weekend with Adam Katie and Max, I hope we don't wait too long before visiting with them again!

Feels unofficially summery

Happy Memorial Day!  We are grateful to those who gave their lives so that we can appreciate and enjoy our freedoms.  This weekend, although we are also grateful to be sort of kicking off summer!
Our peonys aren't doing super amazing this year, however, we can still grab some from Trader Joe's, though this may be it for the year.
This has been the weekend of twinsies.  Dad and I both were blue hoodie twins and then yesterday Mom and I wore matching orange shirts!
We kicked things off nicely with yummy crepes for breakfast
then headed out to Kruger's for Strawberry picking!

In spite of driving through some rain downtown, it turned out to be a perfect day for berry picking... the bushes were full of red ripe berries and the weather was just right.

We got two flats pretty quickly (and picked up some more from the store!)
It was a pretty great way to spend the morning!
We also got to putter around Beaverton (Japanese grocery store, mongolian bbq) before heading over to learn whether Leslie and Joe are having a boy or a girl in the fall!
It's a boy!  Woo hoo!  Mom totally guessed wrong.  S'alright because it was a fun afternoon with friends.
 and loads of dogs
and Josh showed us all of his awesome Starwars Legos and his budding guitar collection!
Today was more mellow, but Mom managed to actually organize a few play-dates.  Aiden came over to play with Owen for the afternoon, and I got to visit my school friend Esme's house (yes my two besties are both named Esme!).  We had a blast and came home to lots of Jam that Dad has been working on all day while smoking some great ribs for dinner (while Mom determinedly cleaned out her closet and dresser!... thank-you konmari)
Ah, watermelon, really delicious ribs (we devoured a while rack!), and a perfect dinner on the deck.  Not to mention that Owen and I were being extremely helpful all evening, it made everything go pretty smoothly!
Aaand to follow tradition, Grandma's peony bloomed one week after she visited.  The blossoms are small this year, but better than ours out front that though very leafy has no blooms at all!  Grandma's are beautiful though!

Starlings all around!

I did my test for spear this week and did awesome!  Mom didn't get the video done right but my skills are really great... next up 3-sectional staff, which I am very excited about!
Grace also had her big performance this spring... over the weekend so Grandma Terri came down so she could see the awesome ballet!
Generally, I eat about anything, but G... G is more selective.  It's always exciting to discover new foods she loves to eat... like beets!

We will try our best to get a video of her performance uploaded in the next day or so!
Friday Mom, Grandma and Grace spent the day running errands, but Saturday was G's big performance.
She had a blast getting ready with everyone...  they had a great changing/waiting room this time, where there were actually seats!

and they were feeling lucky to get to hang out a bit with their TA Ruby.
 A, G, M, F, G, and Z... all waiting patiently for their big show!

They were fantastic, G. did really well with her graceful starling wings and beautiful smile!

She was positively giddy afterwards and was almost overwhelmed by all of the flowers and sweet friends who came to watch!

She even got a great team from Church to come and watch her perform, she is so lucky!

She was particularly excited that Grandma came out to see her dance, and we are grateful for some more visits with her!  I know it was a quick turn-around from last week, but we are always glad to spend time with her!
I even did a pretty good job showing Grace how proud I was of her (by taste testing all of the cheese at the farmers market and coming home with all of our favorite foods).
We now have flowers all over the house!  I don't think Grace stopped giggling for an hour after the performance.

and being in awe of all of the pretty flowers just for her.
We finished up a pretty exciting day with a great birthday party for me and Dad... Happy Birthday T!  While the gals were in recovery from the busy and exciting morning.  We had a great time making duct-tape monsters that turned out pretty cool looking..  After we all met at the movie theater and Dad and I got to see the Age of Ultron and Mom, Grandma, and G. saw Cinderella (thumbs up all around!). Pshew and we finally headed home for dinner and relax for a little bit from our wonderfully busy day!
Today finally, finally, I got Grandma to sit down for a proper board game.  She lasted long after Mom and Dad were out, and even had a pretty decent come-back towards the end.  Thank you Grandma, I know board games are a lot to ask, but I really love playing with you!

Mom and Grandma grabbed breakfast at a great new spot... Trinket (seriously, they were very impressed with the trout hash, chicken and biscuit and a really awesome pistachio roll).  Dad and I took Grandma to the airport later in the afternoon, while the gals went to see Swan Lake by the same studio that Grace takes lessons from.  These were teenagers who were very professional, they were amazing dancers and it was a beautiful performance.  They shared this one too with Val and Esme!
 they are great ballet buddies!
who invited us over for a great dinner and an opportunity to meet their cute new dog Buffy!  She is a super sweetie, even though I manage to rile her up more than most.  Very calm, sweet, adorable and already completely attached to Val!
 E. and G enjoyed the latest Zita book with Ray while Dad started J's new board game with us.
It has been a busy and fun-filled weekend!  The sun finally peeked out this afternoon to break up several grey days, and got to spend our weekend with family and friends having loads of fun!  Thanks all!
