Spring Snowballs

One of my favorite plants in our backyard, the snowball bush, is in full bloom this week.

Of course, that means Owen and I get to have springtime snowball fights and other crazy fun.

We have to enjoy it while it lasts, because usually a few days later it will get rainy and windy and all the snowballs will be gone.

On Saturday morning Dad suddenly wanted to go fishing, and not from his kayak.   We tried a new lake  that wasn't too far away.   While we did see a few people catch some trout, we didn't have any such luck.

We did get visited by a bunch of ducks looking for a free meal, but we didn't have anything to give them.

Owen got up early this morning and made us crêpes all by himself.  He did a great job and even doubled the recipe so that we could all have as many as we wanted.

Later this afternoon, Owen's friend Aiden stopped by.  They're working on a science fair project together and needed to get started.  I'm not really sure what their experiment is yet, but it involves seeds and different types of soil.

Mom has been working on this new quilt for some lucky little baby out there that I haven't met yet.  I hope they like it.

LL Stubs

I am awesome !!!I have glasses and a mustache!!!

We went to LL Stubs Stewart State Park for a great spring cabin campout to celebrate Esme's 6th birthday!  It was a beautiful weekend filled with a lot of free time roaming around the park and going on adventures.  The highlight was really hanging out with wonderful friends for the weekend, Esme's family and her friend Margo and her folks. Everyone got along really well and played so easily together!  In addition to the friends and celebrating E's birthday, we also got to go to an OMSI star party.  Joaquin, Owen, Val and Amy all got to learn about some cool celestial objects, saw the international space station traverse the sky, and got to peek through some telescopes to see a very close view of the moon and the bands around Jupiter and four of its moons!  Sunday morning was spent zooming around on the bike paths, making "science and soup" in the mud (the girls) and a nice hike around the lake for the boys.

We hung around the homstead a lot this weekend.  Saturday was beautiful, and after cleaning the yard up, and tackling a few projects,... and after feeding the chickens in my favorite sparkly dress.. Owen and I had a water fight in the warm sunshine.
After all of our chores and an afternoon of playing we headed up to the Academy Theatre to see Kung-Fu Pand 3! It was so funny and fun to watch, plus a the academy you can nosh on tater tots as well as popcorn (and adult beverages for the adults of course)... so everyone had a fun evening.
Today we harvested our first to asparagus, they were actually big enough that we all got a good taste of the freshest asparagus ever!  The Rhubarb didn't come up this year, so these were our first edible from the garden.  Otherwise, we mostly had an afternoon of playdates.  Owen and Aiden planned their science project while Aubrey and I rode bikes and made mudpies.  I like how spring is shaping up!

Party Time!

We have had a beautiful beautiful springtime week. We started off with an afterschool egging of our cascarones
Everyone got covered with confetti and egg shells and our yard now bears a colorful coat of confetti and colored egg shells.

To keep with the (messy hair) theme, on Saturday, Dad took the car to go fishing so we all walked down to the bagel shop together.  On the way home, Grace and I picked every dandelion that we encountered, and after dandelion battles, Grace realized she had dressed like one and thought she had better get as much of the clock in her hair as she could to complete the ensemble.

after Dad got home we had a fantastic day enjoying the sunshine and playing in the Garden.  Grace and Esme got together and Mom and Val had a girls night at their house while Dad and I got to watch a movie together.  Today we had two birthday parties!
Joaquin turned 9 last week and we were happy to celebrate with his favorite, some may say obsession... Soccer!

We all got to play a few games on the field before enjoying snacks, cake and presents up stairs.
Happy Birthday to a wonderful and dear friend!
After Joaquin's party, we had to pick up Dad and Grace at her friend Roxanne's birthday.  They (also) rented out the skating rink at Mt Scott and generously let me crash the last half of the party.

Skating was a bit harder than I remembered but I eventually got my confidence back up.

What an awesome day!  I'm still a bit wired and having a hard time settling down to sleep, but Mom is pretty sure that once I do I will crash hard!
