Sneak peek at costumes and the harvest fest!

We are seriously enjoying this Halloween season.  I have a great pokemon Exeggutor costume.  I always plan my costumes around shaving my head, this was the baldest pokemon I know.
Mom was excited she spotted an (barred) owl on her field trip this past week!  It has been rainy but lovely out, leaves are most of the way off of the trees, but still bright.
The week ended with an awesome party at after-care.  We got face paint, fancy popcorn and loads of games.
Grace has a cute Amanita muscaria costume, the mushroom cap (umbrella) makes her ready after last year's trick-or-treating deluge, but not so ready for the Harvest fest at school, so Mom made her a mask for when she had to put the umbrella away.
The harvest festival was fantastic, lots of treats, games and mostly lots of playing with our friends.

Plus everyone had great costumes!  BB8, a little witch, hawk girl, kitty cats, Brock...
Still wish I got a picture with Brock, would have made a good match with my Pokemon.
Otherwise, the weekend was filled with some more time at Free Geek where we sorted lots of cables... a playdate with Aidan, and one with Katie for Grace.

While I was at Aidan's Grace and Dad made a surprise dessert (yep, that's dessert) for me.
Mmmm nothing says sisterly love like a plate of worms in dirt
Although G and Mom report they were terribly messy to make I love them and Grace couldn't stop giggling.

Pumpkin carving time!!

It's that time of year again, it's pumpkin carvin' time!  If you cruise back through the blog, I think this makes it our seventh annual pumpkin carving bonanza with these fun families!

We have had a mixed bag sort of week.  The roof of my classroom caved in with the recent big storm, so we are in a small classroom for now until they can get things safe again!!!  On the other hand, Owen was elected as co-president of his class!  He has picked his supreme court nominees, and made sure he dressed the part.

We got a few halloween and just because treats in the mail... In addition to my awesome mermaid tail blanket from Grandma Steves, she croheted one up for my doll as well!  We get to be twins now!
We also worked in a few sweet treats, just to prime our systems for Halloween maybe, but the cloud city gravedigger sundae and the spooky unicones (with eyeballs and bleeding red sprinkles underneath) were our favorites!
Owen and Mom have been reading the Lord of the Rings trilogy in the evenings for months now, and finally finished!  O is excited because Mom promised that he could watch the movies once he read the books, so now he is ready to spend the next several days straight watching (I think we have convinced him to spread it out a little bit)
Owen got a play-date this weekend but we couldn't get mine lined up, to get us out of the house, Mom took me up to Pip's doughnuts, it was a good trip, and Mom thought they were delish, but alas, I wasn't feeling like it when we got there.  They are super cute though.
Today, we got the old crew together for some pumpkin carving and dinner time!
It was a good evening catching up with dear friends.

Free Geek

This weekend my dad and I started our volunteering job at Free Geek.  We worked for about three hours recycling various donations to the non-profit that recycles and rebuilds computers.   We were given a tub of CDs, manuals, and various cables in bags.  On our desk we had smaller bins which we had to separate the plastic, paper, and everything else.  It wasn't so bad, but every time we'd get to the bottom of our bin, they would just bring us another one.  Maybe in a few weeks we can take a class to learn how to put things back together and make a computer out of the parts.  If we volunteer long enough, they'll actually give us one of the rebuilt computers to take home.

While Dad and I were recycling, Grace had a nice Saturday morning tea with Mom and a morning filled with arts and crafts waiting for the promised big storm.

It's been really rainy here in Portland this past week.  We didn't let that stop us from getting out.  Sometimes while you're out in the rain you get treated to a nice rainbow.  This one was a rare full double rainbow.

On Sunday we met up with Joaquin and Esme's family for a great evening that included a movie (the new Ghostbusters), followed by dinner at a Thai restaurant and then ice cream at Cloud City. A lovely way to wrap up a grey weekend!

When we got home, Grace's latest loose tooth came out.  We have pictures, but it's a bit bloody, so we will spare you!,

Post by Grace

I mad a dirt baby.
                                                 I am a scare crow.
I saw a flower.     Look   how    pink it is.

(Mom and Dad have a rule that you have to carry your own pumpkin... Owen pushed it this year with a 40lb pumpkin!!)

Greek Fest and Skating Party

It's officially fall, well it sort of was last week, but it seems like overnight the trees all are turning colors and the rainy season has really started.  It doesn't keep us inside though!
We've had a pretty nice weekend, started out with breakfast and stocking up at Bob's Red Mill, complete with pancakes (for me) and a Bob sighting!
Dad and I went to Free Geek later that afternoon, I'm super excited about volunteering with them and working my way to my own computer.  Dad and I signed up for the "taking computers apart" table and will start in earnest in a few weeks.
Although the rain started, we headed out to the Greek Fest with Val and Esme!
As always, some super yummy food (especially honey covered fried dough that we all eagerly anticipate.  We also caught some great dancers and Mom and Grace checked out the cool costumes.
Esme and Grace took over the dance floor after the Greek dancers left.  They danced through their sugar rush.
This afternoon, we got to celebrate Alex's birthday with a skating party.  The Mt Scott Roller rink is the BEST for big birthday parties!

Plus, I'm just getting better and better
Grace also is a great skater these days as well and mostly extremely resilient to tumbles.

Plus she had an awesome outfit for the affair.
Happy Birthday Alex!

After skating the afternoon away Dad, Grace and I all worked together to recreate a delicious chanterelle, prosciutto, and home-made pasta dish that was so yummy!  Topped it off with some Greek pastries and it was a pretty awesome dinner (and last slivers of birthday cake for Grace)!
Happy Fall!
